The Gibson Custom Humbucker is a standard feature on Historic Reissue guitars from the Gibson Custom Shop and is loved by guitarists around the world for its legendary PFA sound. Years of research and testing by Gibson engineers resulted in a formula and process to replicate the magical sound of the original Patent Applied For Humbucker™ from the 1950s. Each custom humbucker uses Alnico 3 magnets for a warm, sweet sound that accurately captures the tonal characteristics of the highly prized early humbuckers. Just like the original Patent Applied For humbuckers, the Custom Humbucker features 42 AWG wire and unpaired coils that are not waxed out. This results in an accurate pickup that will satisfy even the most demanding musicians.
