Melvin Lee Davis is a Californian bassist, singer and keyboardist, producer and television composer. He is the musical director of the Grammy award-winning band Chaka Khan and has recorded with many American bands. With his expertise, NUX has designed a kind of Swiss army knife for bassists. The aim was to offer a studio-quality preamp that is flexible and modern, so that it can be used in any situation to ensure a versatile and inspiring bass sound.

A concentrate of functionality

The robust housing combines high-quality digital technology and all the modern features a modern bassist expects on the road. The double pedal offers a very efficient preamp section, equipped with a 3-band EQ, semi-parametric for the mids to fine-tune the frequencies between 150 and 940 Hz. There is also a drive section with a gain control and a blend control to adjust the mix between the preamp and drive signals. The Nux Bass Preamp also has a noise gate with decay and threshold, which can be adjusted by a long press on the drive footswitch. A cabinet simulator / IR loader is integrated to simulate a bass cabinet on the amplifier, headphones or DI output if required. You can also upload your own IRs.

In terms of connections, this preamplifier is flexible and leaves nothing to be desired. It has an instrument input and a mini-jack aux input for recording music. There is a wide choice of outputs depending on the application and configuration. A Throught output allows the signal to be sent to a bass amplifier without preamp/drive processing or cabinet simulation. The main output offers the option of outputting the preamp/drive signal with the cabinet simulator activated or deactivated. A DI output is provided for direct connection to a mixing console. The XLR format offers complete routing with a ground switch. You can therefore choose whether you want to send the signal without preamp/drive processing (pre-position) or with preamp/drive processing (post-position) and whether you want to activate the cabinet simulator or not. A headphone output allows you to practice without disturbing your neighbors.

The preamp pedal can be connected to the computer via the USB port. Even more options and functions are available here. In fact, the NUX Preamp Bass also serves as a powerful audio interface for recordings. The free software makes it even easier to configure the preamp, drive and noise gate sections. You can also choose between two preamps (MLD and Aguilar) and four different IRs (8x10-inch, 4x10-inch). You can upload your own IRs via the software to customize the sound.
